Gojira marketplace launch

The original design of the Kujira Name System included a unique auction market built to enable mints on Kujira with a much lower risk of impact to chain operations than a traditional NFT mint. In collaboration with the Wink team, this has grown into a full-fledged NFT marketplace where anyone can launch a collection! Read more here. We will launch alongside Gojira and become the first NFT to mint on the Kujira chain.

Personalize your wallet

Interacting with the crypto world requires an address on both ends, which presents somewhat of a barrier to entry for new users. These addresses are hard to read, hard to share, and hard to verify that they match what you expect. KNS allows you to link your domain name to your address so you can share your personal handle instead of a jumble of letters and numbers.

Bridging the gap between Web2 and Web3

Web3 applications still rely on a good deal of traditional internet infrastructure, and KNS lays the groundwork for an alternative to a key piece of the puzzle: DNS. Beyond wallet addresses, KNS records can resolve to content stored on IPFS, IP addresses, or other domain names. In addition to being available on chain, these records will be served through the KNS Gateway where any web browser can access them.

Revenue share for KUJI stakers

One of the main goals of the Kujira Name System is to strengthen the chain economy and encourage growth. In pursuit of this goal, we will be sending a full 80% of the protocol revenue to KUJI stakers!

Auctions and pricing

Domains will be auctioned using a Gojira open mint market, which works similarly to the KNS auction design from the original announcement. Users can place bids for any domain with a base price determined by length, and an auction will be opened. During the auction period bids are locked and cannot be withdrawn, only increased, until the auction is closed and a winner is chosen.

Price is in USK, and the base price tiers are as follows:

  • 5+ characters: 20 USK
  • 4 characters: 100 USK
  • 3 characters: 500 USK

Owner auctions and reselling

Another roadmap feature coming early! Gojira will support reselling at launch, with some extra cool features. You’ll be able to bid on any already minted domain, even ones not listed for sale, and at any time the owner can choose to accept an offer or begin an auction. More details on this will come in the Gojira documentation.

Expiration and extensions

Once minted, a domain will be valid for one year. You may extend this period for an additional year at a flat rate of 20 USK; this can be done immediately and as many times as you like.

If a domain is not extended and it expires, there will be a 30-day grace period where you can still extend it but all other functionality is locked. After the grace period the domain is released back to the market and can be minted again.

Wrapping up

KNS is closer than ever, so start brainstorming names and get those bids ready! We’ll continue to publish more information and documentation over the next few weeks leading up to the launch. If you have any questions, please reach out. There is a KNS channel in the official Kujira Discord, or you can give @mintthemoon a ping on Twitter, Discord, or Telegram.

Happy minting!
